A Creative Commentary

As is known quite obviously judging from the research that has been done about my person for what ever desperate reasons…including the effort to procure estates not yet remitted, my Grandmother on my mother's side was a long time resident of the Las Vegas, Nevada area. She was there before the dirt pretty much and many of even the early "goons" seemed to have a considerable respect for her.

She was very much the embodiment of the old saying pertaining to someone that "Heaven Doesn't Want, and Hell Is Afraid Will Take Over."

She ran several, modest rental properties for most of her considerably long life in the area. In fact, she ran one of the first post offices in the area as well as housed a goodly portion of those and their families that built the Hoover Dam.

Although I someday may document her life in and as the area grew and changed, such isn't in my interest within this commentary. No, the present subject matter is in the interest of exploring one of the countries longest standing monuments to "The Good Old Days."

The Hoover Dam is a rather interesting, working monument to much – including perhaps, "giving the devil his due." It symbolizes many things in many ways and is connected to them through the human tendency to maintain such meaning.

The dam itself provides electrical power to several states and sells the excess to others, farther away… which is widely known. It is other aspects about it that aren't so widely considered.

Let it be said, and truthfully so, that it powered even the very rise of every aspect in modern technological entertainment. Movies, music… game shows…even the ever precious and coveted positions in late night talk shows. This, including those not even affiliated with the general area of the southwestern United States… simply through the fact that you never see a television program of that nature which doesn't include some personality directly of that area of entertainment.

Yes it is true, the talk show hosts aren't all they are cracked up to be… you don't ever see an hour long monologue for good reasons I suspect.

The Hoover Dam built the modern American Entertainment Industry. Hands down.

It symbolizes some rather interesting social aspects as well.

In no uncertain terms it was built in a time before any equal rights movements, and just at a time when Las Vegas was in the very beginning stages of the state of attraction which it is now.

This means, and especially so in the eyes of modern society when looking back at even recent American history that it was built by wife beating chauvinists, fueled with alcohol and big tobacco, and is revered as a monument to human progress.

Funny that those pursuing so many social aspects in regard to things like banning big tobacco and even racial issues haven't once approached the stature of such a monument and its roots, so to speak. This could either be because their message itself depends upon it to reach the people, or those less than acceptable aspects are simply over looked and justified under the shadow of old rumors about Hoover and cross dressing.

It could be said that the Hoover Dam and those associated meanings is celebrated in every minute of the day, somewhere on the planet through the use of products it has produced… built by red neck, wife beating, beer swillers no less. This does include “Thelma And Louise,” girls…. But, knock yourselves out!

It doesn't even matter that someday anyone and everyone that knew of such social aspects of the time, won't be around any more. It will still stand as a monument to them.

Something further in more recent developments has been the exploration of employing coal fired electrical plants in the area for what ever reason. Isn't that something? Supporting… perhaps "backing up" an existing "red neck" power source, with another one – given the areas of the United States where it is that coal is procured?

Given the current direction and support of social backsliding, why not just put a few nuke plants in Southern California and call it good? People in Colorado don't mind the "red neck" aspects of the Dam so much, it would seem. They could then "fence" the extra power from it until such time as the Hoover Dam is deemed unsafe and needs to be destroyed… which of course would leave everyone in the area depending upon coal fired electricity.

Something else that I find rather interesting, is that even in the recent concerns of terror threats… there was no reported expansion of protective measures for such a large target as is the Hoover Dam. Think about it? That Dam produces electricity for a more than substantial part of the United States including the biggest concentrated area of monetary wealth within the United States of America. Not to mention the perceived “Devil” aspects of the entertainment industry.

But not one concern as to the safety of the Dam itself.

Maybe the Federal government would just as soon see it gone? It would be easier to control everything else in the area.

Then of course, beyond the entertainment aspects… the Hoover Dam provides considerable electrical power to the Northern California areas as well. Including the ever so important “Silicon Valley..” which of course means… (is there a drum roll needed here?) Just about every aspect of modern communications. And more directly being the rise of the ever important Microsoft Corporation as well as others having gained their beginnings in the area.

Then further and even less considered is the electrical power to various (and some even classified) military bases.

No concern for the Dam what so ever in the terrorism scare.. beyond, I imagine the local news stations as per a ratings bate.

So let’s review, shall we?

And I am sure there are a few other things which the Hoover Dam provides power for that I haven’t mentioned, including a few Federal Reserve Mints.

All powered with the continuing and highly celebrated Hoover Dam. Proudly displaying its origins in the Male Chauvinistic, Racially Biased, Big Tobacco Era in which it was erected.

I think about it from the perspective of some of the modern “feminist” mind sets as per sensitivity to perceived representation of male gender aspects, and it looks like it even “pee’s” like a boy, ladies.

Anyone care for a movie tonight?

Maybe just stay home and watch Letterman or Leno?

Man, could I use a smoke.
